GRID TIED SOLAR


Finally in Costa Rica it is possible to connect a solar or other renewable energy system to the ICE distribution grid! This means that as a homeowner you can choose to buy a solar, wind, hydro or biomass energy system to produce your own energy and feed it back into the ICE grid. You receive a credit on your electric bill for the energy that is produced every month earning you up to 33 cents US per kWh.  With the systems that we have designed you will be able to get a return on the investment between 6.5% and 10%, or a pay back period of between 9 and 11 years. This is not taking into account the constant annual increase in the cost of electricity or higher oil prices in the future which cause even greater increases in electricity costs. This is possible because we have designed the most cost effective systems on the market today. We are taking all of the hassle out of being able to connect your system to the grid by doing all of the ICE paperwork for you for a nominal fee. Once your system has been approved we install it at your home, and technicians from ICE will inspect the installation and install a bi-directional meter in order to measure the energy that you produce vs what you consume. The difference between these amounts is what you will pay on your bill. Follow these steps to get started:

The other interesting aspect of the ICE program is that if you produce more energy than you consume during months of peak sunshine or wind, ICE will bank that energy and credit your bill later when there is not so much energy available. So it is possible to use all of the energy that has been produced by the system throughout the year. At the end of the year in November, ICE will balance the accounts and start the new year of accounting. In addition to the 10kW residential  systems ICE will allow larger systems to be connected to the grid for industrial and commercial customers.
